NAMM 2011

The NAMM Show is America's largest musical-instrument trade exposition. This year's edition was held January 13-16, and hundreds of exhibitors from across the US and around the world came to show their wares. The thousands of musical products on display drew an equal number of dealers eager to see, hear, and touch all the exciting new goodies. (Of course, the fact that the show was held in Anaheim, California in January had its own appeal.)

Speaking of lots of products...how many brand names can you find in this shot of the Universal Percussion booth? We're proud to be the biggest exclusive distributor of percussion products in the country. (Let's see...Tama...KickPort...Wuhan...Beato...Cannon...Attack....)

One of the highlights of the Universal booth was this display of legendary Wuhan gongs. They're now available with beautiful hand-made Hershberger gong stands crafted by Amish woodworkers in Ohio. You can see one of the floor-style stands at the bottom of the display.

Universal is pleased to welcome Premier drums back to the US market-and thrilled to be their exclusive US distributor. Completely updated manufacturing methods, coupled with the historic legacy of the Premier brand, are sure to make these drums a focal point in any music store or drumshop. The green sparkle kit with the red accent stripe is a new mid-price Genista model, while the kit with the burst finish is a high-end Premier Elite model.

We're always happy to welcome guests to the Universal booth. Here, UP's Carmen Speziale (left), Tom Shelley (second from right) and Jim Bickley (right) share a moment with Pro-Mark Drumsticks founder Herb Brochstein and his wife Marie.

By Sunday afternoon at a NAMM show, things can start to get a little wacky. For example, check out the Universal staff doing their best imitation of the Village People.

Universal Introduces John Sferra Signature Snare Batter

High-Impact Head Reflects Its Namesake's Powerful Style

The latest introduction from Attack Drumheads is the John Sferra Signature snare drum batter. Sferra is the talented drummer for guitar great Phil Keaggy, as well as for the award-winning band that Keaggy has led since the 1970s, Glass Harp. In both situations Sferra is known for his hard-hitting yet always musical style.

The John Sferra Signature head is based on Attack's heavy-duty Blast Beat two-ply coated batter. To this is added a top dot, making the Sferra head the thickest and strongest that Attack has to offer. But it also offers a crisp, powerful response and surprising sensitivity.

Attack's John Sferra Signature snare batter is designed to be more than just an impact-resistant target. With its impressive acoustic performance as well as its outstanding durability, it's the perfect head for the heavy hitter with taste.
